With the advent of the world wide web, individuals, nonprofit organizations, institutions and any other entity needing funding has almost unlimited resources to search and find applicable funding opportunites. The federal government established "one stop shop" for federal funding opportunites, the E-Grants Initiative, in 2002 to improve government services to the public: "Agencies will allow applicants for federal Grants to apply for and ultimately manage grant funds online through a common web site, simplifying grants management and eliminating redundancies." The Federal Financial Assistance Management Improvement Act of 1999, also known as Public Law 106-107. P.L. 106-107 was enacted in November 1999 to:

Improve the effectiveness and performance of federal financial assistance programs.
Simplify federal assistance application and reporting requirements.
Improve the delivery of services to the public.
Facilitate greater coordination among those responsible for delivering the services.

The burden on institutions to collect and disseminate funding opportunity information is now as simple as providing URL links on web sites available to all interested parties.

Additionally, there are many web and email subscriptions services that may be purchased by institutions that provide customized information to the end user using key word searches and email listservs. Some of the most popular subscription services are Community of Science, ResearchResearch, and GrantsNet.
